Gary grew up in a Christian home, but was not truly born again until he was almost 21 years old. After serving over six years in the Navy, he was eventually able to attend Bible College, and received a B.A. in Bible and Theology, with an emphasis on Pastoral Ministries.
In 1986, he was hired as a counselor at a Christian recovery program, and became the Program Director soon after starting. He served as Director for 20 years. He received his Master's Degree in Counseling during this time. |

There is also a second men's shelter in Calhoun, Georgia.
